 How to Play Xbox Games on Your Phone

What is Cloud Gaming? 

You’ll need an Xbox Game Pass subscription to access Cloud Gaming. It’s essentially an additional feature for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers which allows you to play over 100 Xbox games on your mobile at no extra cost!

Playing through the Cloud means you can pick up where you left off… so if it’s taken over three hours to get your highest score, don’t worry, you won’t lose any of your progress.

How do I use Cloud Gaming?

You’ll need to be using a device that supports Xbox Cloud Gaming. Most modern mobiles, tablets, PCs and consoles will allow you to use Cloud Gaming. 

If you’re planning on using Cloud Gaming, you’ll need to download the app and make sure you have a high-speed internet connection to limit blank screens or screen tearing. 

You’ll also need an Xbox wireless controller or a Bluetooth controller that works with your mobile.

How do I play Xbox games on my iPhone?

Cloud Gaming is pretty easy to set up but there’s a catch… there isn’t a dedicated app on the App Store. You’ll need to open your Safari browser and create an app icon for your home screen.

Follow these steps: 

  • Head over to xbox.com/play and sign into the account linked to your Xbox Game Pass
  • Tap on the share button at the bottom of the screen and scroll down to Add to Home Screen
  • A pop-up with the URL and Cloud Gaming icon will appear, choose Add
  • Tap on the Cloud Gaming icon to sign in

How do I play Xbox games on my Android? 

It’s super easy to play Xbox games on your Android mobile wherever you are! However,  the majority of the Xbox games available will need you to connect an Xbox controller.

Plus, to able to stream your favorite games on the go, you’ll need fast internet that has download speeds of at least 10Mbps. 

Just follow these steps to play Xbox games on your Android:

  • Download the Xbox Game Pass app via the Google Play Store 
  • Open the app and choose the person icon
  • Sign in and enter the email address linked to your Microsoft account, then add you password 
  • Choose the home icon and select the CLOUD tab
  • Select a game you want to play 
  • Let the game load and start playing

What is Remote Play?

If you don’t want to pay for a subscription to enable Cloud Gaming then Remote Play is an alternative. Stream games from your console to your mobile device without the extra cost.

Remote Play won’t work on certain operating systems, so you’ll need to make sure you’re using iOS 10 or higher and Android 6.0 or higher. 

It is also only available to use if you have an Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S or Xbox One.

There are certain recommendations for using Remote Play on your Android or iPhone; no less than 4.75 Mbps upload speeds, a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection and Microsoft recommends connecting your Xbox to an ethernet cable for the best performance. 

Here’s how to use the Remote Play feature on your iPhone or Android mobile:

  • Install the Xbox app through the Google Play Store or the App Store
  • Sign into the same account linked up to your console
  • Go to My Library > Consoles
  • Select your Xbox console and once the pop-up appears, choose Remote Play on this device and Continue
  • You may be prompted to set up a controller via Bluetooth or USB
