WORLDS - Ann Arbor, Michigan-based bassist Dave Sharp's follow-up to his acclaimed previous Secret 7 release - is an expansive soundscape featuring his brand of 'World Jazz" music. Recognized in the JazzTimes 2010 Critic's Poll, Dave Sharp's Secret 7 masterfully blends rhythms, sounds, textures - and musicians - from across the globe. WORLDS includes collaborations with Cheikh Lo (Senegal), Parthiv Gohil (India), Gayelynne McKinney (Detroit/Straight Ahead), Walter White (Detroit/Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra/Dave Holland), Gary Schunk (Detroit) Jonita Gandhi (Toronto), Elden Kelly (Lansing) Mehdi Darvishi (Iran), Andre Frappier (Los Angeles) Chris Codish (Detroit) Evan Perri (Detroit) Inrdrajit Chowdhury (New York), and Mehdi Darvishi (Iran). Recorded at Backseat Productions with Jim Roll in Ann Arbor, MI, and in various studios around the world, WORLDS began as a collaboration between Dave Sharp and tenor saxophonist Chris Kaercher (Four Tops, Temptations, Aretha Franklin), who share a fascination with jazz and music from India and Africa, as well as sounds from New Orleans and the Middle East. Dave Sharp was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan where he was exposed to and inspired by the city's rich music heritage. While earning a degree from the University of Michigan, Sharp became deeply devoted to the study of jazz and the perfection of his art. This devotion culminated in a move to San Francisco where Dave studied jazz and music theory with legendary bassist Herbie Lewis (McCoy Tyner, Cannonball Adderley, Les McCann) at the New College of California. While living in San Francisco, Sharp served as bassist and composer for the modern jazz ensemble the Spheres of Influence and the Killer Joe Trio. After touring the West Coast with rock legends The Melvins, and playing a run of jazz venues in Tokyo, Sharp returned home to the metropolitan Detroit area in 1998, where he continues to compose, record, teach and perform live in front of appreciative audiences.
