Having toured, recorded and collaborated with a diverse roster of artists, drummer and percussionist Mathias Kunzli releases 'Playground' - the first album under his own name. Intended to be heard as one long piece, "Playground" is a live recording of an all-improvised solo show in New York City. Making music from the heart, Swiss-born percussion wizard, Mathias Kunzli, draws from a seemingly endless pool of resources, sound makers and surprises. Mathias invites you to rock out, slow dance, dream, imagine or simply lay back and listen as he connects worlds through pure improvisation and weaves effortlessly from playful soundscapes to heavy hitting drum beats. Kunzli has performed and collaborated with Regina Spektor, John Zorn, Moby, Lauryn Hill, Brooklyn Rider, Yo-Yo Ma's Silkroad Project, The Paul Winter Consort, Viex Farka Toure, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Bakithi Kumalo, Gina Gershon, Mikael Burishnikov and Rashanim. He happily embraces all his influences, creating a unique sound from his experience touring with pop artists, his involvement in the downtown New York scene and his passion for various musical traditions, he creates a sound that could only be described as his own. Drumming, singing and transforming any object into an instrument, Mathias Kunzli's "Playground" reminds the listener that music is everywhere...
