Sumkali - Chalo

Sumkali is Indian music made in America. We do our best to blend the sounds and traditions of India with jazz, funk, rock, and western classical influences. This album was recorded over an entire year. We started by improvising in the studio and then took the best of those sessions and began building the pieces. The album is rounded out by a couple of traditional tracks, such as the river folk song 'Bhatiyali' and devotional song 'Prem'. Most of the takes on this album were done with a mobile recording system that we took into the houses of the musicians. This provided us with ample time to get the takes right, but also ensured that we were in the most relaxed and comfortable environment for creation. The care that went into each track can be felt. Through the help of a successful Kickstarter campaign we were able to raise the funds that allowed us to spend an ample amount of time mixing and mastering the C.D. When the deadline came to send it to the manufacturer, everyone agreed the project was complete. We hope you enjoy listening and experiencing this music as much as we did creating it.
