A collection of songs (emphasis on the "song") from Africa. The point of this compilation is to showcase the beauty of the African vocal work. Unfortunately, this isn't necessarily Narada's full-fledged forte, and as a result, perhaps not a representative sample is taken. Nonetheless, they've got some good work on here. Ayub Ogada always pleases, as does Samite of Uganda. Detroit native Kevin Nathaniel isn't too bad on the mbira (he apparently studied under the great Ephat Mujuru), and the Diops (not related) both perform well on their respective pieces. It would appear that the only thing really binding these artists together is taking part in a Lincoln Center program for children at some point (presumably how Narada got hold of them all). The compilation isn't bad, but there are other, better ones available, along with full-length albums from most of the artists contained therein. ~ Adam Greenberg
