Morcheeba may be the latest acid jazz import ready to hit the U.S. by storm. This East London trio, fronted by singer/siren Skye and jazz hipsters Paul and Ross Godfrey, blends sullen acid riffs with heavenly funkadelic vocals. Known in the U.K. as innovators of smoldering jazz and funky folk rhythms, this band was weaned on sixties music and backbeats. "All the songs start with acoustic guitar and then the beats are worked out at a later date," states Paul. "If a song works on acoustic guitar, then we know we have a strong song." You might call it "cool breeze music dubbed with a dark edge."
