Following his Folk/World stylings on "Medallion" (2005) and the politically charged Americana of "American Dreams" (2008) Hank Woji goes back to basics with his latest release, "There Was A Time" (KZ Records 004). With it's tight, sparse arrangements, and brevity in both song and lyric, this solo effort stands in sharp contrast with his earlier works. Drawing on traditional folk, blues and classic country themes, both musically and lyrically, and with songs centered primarily around guitar, vocals and harmonica, "There Was A Time" has been called Hank's most "Texas" record to date! The CD's eleven tracks include seven Woji compositions along with his interpretations of two traditionals, "Deep Ellum Blues" and "My Last Ole Dollar", as well as new arrangements of Townes Van Zandt's "Loretta" and Woody Guthrie's "Jesus Christ". Recorded at Studio Butte Recording in Terlingua, Texas, by Ted Arbogast, "There Was A Time" stands as a timeless work of pure TexAmericana!
