As epitomized by the chaotic artwork, Swarm of the Lotus' latest is a maelstrom of destructive noise, disturbingly untidy in it's approach and delivery. Ugly from every angle, the Baltimore-based quartet plays a serrated brand of Metalcore: every bit as tortuous as Converge, and every bit as inharmonious as Today Is the Day. The frighteningly down-tuned riffs are accentuated by occasional forays into Neurosis-type grandiosity, strained throat-tearing vocals, and disrhythmic patterns of devastation. Cohesive riffs cut across jarring rhythms, befuddling the listener as to which direction the following movement will take. Sporting a Kurt Ballou production ensures the Sirens of Silence is captured in all it's horrid glory. Abacus. 2005.
