Taraf de Haidouks (ta-RAHF d'Hay-dooks), whose name translates as "band of outlaws," are a real village band from Romania, who have earned a rep as purveyors of "the ultimate in Eastern European roots music" (Boston Globe). They make their major label debut with this self-titled Nonesuch album, a mix of local styles and flavors that offer the richness of the Romanian folk tradition. The music (dance tunes and story songs) is the inspiration for the music of the Gipsy Kings.
