Susan Hickman is a dynamic country music recording artist from Houston Texas. Her bubbly personality and positive high on life makes an impact on just about everyone she comes in contact with. Susan was born in Clear Lake, Texas July 1st 1985. She has been involved in music most of her 23 years. She grew up singing in her church choir and started taking piano lessons at age 5. She later learned to play violin and played in the church orchestra. Susan is currently learning to play guitar. Susan is an incredibly hard working, dedicated individual. Susan has always done what it takes to make things happen for herself and her career. Her commanding vocals and personality demand the attention from her audience week after week. In September 2007, Susan began recording her debut country album at Rainey Studios in Drasco Arkansas. It was produced by Doug Deforest, aka Doug Driesel who has worked with artists such as: Todd Fritch, Ashliegh Rogers, The Dixie Beeliners, Scout Finch, Doug Spartz, Jonathan Edwards (sunshine), Brian Black, Michael Humprey and many others. Susan was able to work with a terrific group of musicians such as: Tim Crouch on strings who is breathtaking at his craft. Robby Springfield on lead and steel guitar truly a master. R.P. Harrell, on keys and organ not only had magic fingers but was amazing to see him in action. Mike Kennedy on drums totally incredible and gifted, Doug Deforest, magnificent on bass and an unforgettable session leader. John Rainey calm and collected engineer, All were a honor and pleasure to work with, down to earth and so much fun! Susan's vocals were recorded at Producer Doug Deforest's Lake Paradise Studio. Over the past few years, Susan has shared the stage with artists such as: Tracy Byrd, Jo Dee Messina, Kevin Fowler, Keith Anderson, Steve Holy, The Lost Trailers, Blaine Larson, Phil Vassar, Ashton Sheperd, Phil Stacy and Lee Brice just to name a few. Susan has really started to make a name for herself in the world of country music. Announcing the release of her debut country album and the success of her music over in Europe. This is just a taste of what is to come. Her explosive, self titled 10 track record, set to be released winter 2008, kicks off with the up-tempo, two steppin' "Wrapped Up In Me" which is the perfect way to start off the album. It's a catchy tune with such witty writing styles by Brett James, Ashley Monroe and Terry Clayton. This song will soon be a permanent fixture in the Texas dance halls. "Wrapped Up In Me" is currently #19 in it's 4th week on the top 40 European charts and #17 on the top 20 independent European charts. Red is a darker story than what we usually hear from Susan "It's an incredible song with such real pain I really had to get into the mental focus for this one because it touches on such a tragic situation with two very different women." Mila Mason truly has a vivid, unique writing style, It definitely paints the picture. Hell Still Ain't Frozen Over is a contemporary power ballad " It's not your typical cryin' in your beer country tune. "It's a song I want people to hear because everyone, sometime or another can relate to and it is truly a beautiful song." Hell Still Ain't Frozen Over, written by Bobby Pinson and Melissa Peirce will be on the 10th anniversary edition of Hotdisc in January 2009. Sunday Paper is a hilarious (tell it to someone who cares) type song "I think I had the most fun with this song because it's so me... I am incredibly sarcastic and I go off on crazy tangents about stuff like that, so I guess it fits right in with my personality." From the fiddle stylings of Tim Crouch decorating the brilliant lyrics (put it up in skywriting, on the scoreboard at the football game) to (Write it with a sharpie on your forehead and walk around for days) it will keep your ears glued to the speakers till the end for fear you'll miss something. Sunday Paper peaked at #5 on the top 40 European Charts and #5 on the independent top 20. Another hit by Brett James, Hillary Lindsey, Angelo Petraglia and Troy Verges. One of the most heart hitting songs on the album is One Of Those Who Make It Up There. A truly incredible piece of writing, a Doug Deforest original song "This song touches on the things we'd rather forget because we are so wrapped up in what's going on in our own lives and the right now factor. The world is so desensitized to such fragile matters such as the last verse. It was a very hard song to get through, I just pray that a girl in the same situation hears this song and will hear that same conviction and change her mind." You Just Missed This Train was another perfect addition to the new record. "I definitely wanted a train song, my Dad's whole side of the family are railroad men, so I grew up around trains. When I heard the demo I was sold." You Just Missed This Train written by Bobby Pinson and Melissa Peirce, made it to # 27 on the top 40 European Charts. That is just a small preview of what the new record by Susan Hickman has to bring to the listening ears of country music. This has been an incredible journey so far and it's only the beginning. Susan is the lead singer of The Spiffingtons Band, a group if incredibly talented individuals. "It is a joy to work with such wonderful people week after week, the kind of people that have real morals and integrity. They are not just band mates but very great friends. I am truly blessed to be able to learn from such seasoned professionals." The Spiffingtons are made up of five musically superb members. Susan Hickman - Lead Vocals, Danny Klotz - Lead Guitar and Vocals, Craig Gysler - Keyboards and Vocals, Darrell Green - Drums and Vocals, CJ Dipalma - Bass and Vocals. This highly energetic band combines their outstanding musical abilities along with an explosive stage show that will get you on the dance floor and make the party come alive.
