Following theater and documentary work, Alex North's big break came with Elia Kazan's staging of Death of a Salesman in '49, followed by that director's film adaptation of a Streetcar Named Desire. Avoiding classical models and turning to symphonic Jazz, it is considered a pioneer in the history of film soundtracks. The next year saw Viva Zapata, followed by the Bad Seed, but it was Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus that became North's best-known work, distinguished by it's famous "Love Theme." This recording features the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Eric Stern.
