Stephanie Claussen's newest solo harp album 'Soirée à Montpellier' ("evening in Montpellier") captures the essence of a French city which is at once ancient and chic, charming and wild. While living in the medieval center of Montpellier, France for two years, Claussen heard accordion music on the tram; carousel music as she passed through the main plaza to buy groceries; classical music pouring out the open windows of the music school; Gregorian chant at the cathedral. In 'Soirée', Claussen took these various 'snap shots' and interpreted them on solo harp, selecting the pieces which she felt best captured the musical atmosphere of Montpellier. The result is gloriously relaxing and unexpectedly fresh.
