Passionate Pop that Matters. Thoughtful, powerful, romantic. Loud and fast rock with a heart. Serious Fun was formed to play the songs of Doug Osborne and Stephen Wild on the stages of Boston, with a plan to record the music, take it to the record stores and radio stations, and to the biggest of stages. Steve had been playing bass in a band called This Big. He invited Doug, who had been feverishly writing songs while he managed a record store, to play with them. They auditioned over forty drummers and settled on the one with the skill, musicianship, and back beat they needed - Liz DeSessa. As the first gig approached and the band slimmed down to a trio, they found that they could make powerful music together. Some of their gigs included: 04/23/1983 Chet's Last Call with Richard Nolan 05/09/1983 Jumpin' Jack Flash 05/24/83 The Rat 05/25/83 Bunratty's 05/19/83 Chet's Last Call 7/13/83 Jumpin' Jack Flash 07/20/83 Jumbos 07/26/83 The Rat 08/13/83 Bunratty's with Del Fuegos, Gary Shane, etc. 08/31/83 Jumpin' Jack Flash 09/15/83 Bunratty's 10/1/83 Jumbos with The Reflectors 10/04/83 Inn Square Mens Bar 01/18/84 Jumpin' Jack Flash with Cheapskates 04/02/84 Paradise with Dwight Twilley 04/03/84 Storyville with New Deal 04/04/84 The Rat The band was able to draw club goers and bring in enough money to finance their own recording. Andy Mendelson (Andy Pratt, etc.) recorded the band running through seven songs at Baker St. Studios in Watertown MA. Three songs, including Cambridge Nights, were mixed by Andy and Doug from the 8-Track 1" multitracks to ¼" tape. Serious Fun was invited to add a song to the Rock and Roll Anthology, Volume 4 on Var International Records, and ended up contributing two from these sessions: Pasted On Pout and Arrest My Heart. After playing their last gigs in Boston at The Paradise and The Rat (with Carl Jordan on bass and Rick Martin on drums, both from Boston favorites Pastiche), Doug moved to California before the record was released.
