The late Cub Koda (Brownsville Station), described Mystic Shake as 'a little bit reggae, a little bit salsa, a little bit rock & roll.. ' and compared them to the East Coast mirthmakers NRBQ. Mystic Shake performs an eclectic mix of Caribbean, African, New Orleans, rock, jazz, folk, and pop - a mix they call 'Rhythmic Fun'! (One fan said 'Listening to their music makes me feel like I'm on vacation!') Their newest CD, 'Serious Fun', covers subjects from the fun to the fundamental. 'Television' is an updating of a 1957 Stan Freberg song (and has been featured on the 'Dr. Demento radio show), 'Because of You' is dedicated to a son and his late mother, 'Bona Fide' tells about finding the real thing in love and life, 'Angelina' is a gentle Tex-Mex tune, 'Paws' attests to the healing power of our feline friends, 'The Ballad of Cokie Roberts' chronicles the writer's infatuation with the ubiquitous newscaster (Fess Parker would be proud), 'Voice of Summer' serves as a tribute to the great Detroit Tiger's broadcaster Ernie Harwell (and was featured on FOX Sports and NPR), and 'Back to the Sea' is a traditional folk song dedicated to JFK Jr. 'Serious Fun' is an example of the great range of Mystic Shake, and is popular with the young-at-heart of all ages!
