Northwest singer-songwriter Christie Aitken released her debut CD, "Road to Sunnyside", in June 2006. It features her rich, soulful vocals along with a cast of talented local artists who add a fresh mix of instrumentation to this project. The 13 songs on the album range from organic pop rock with full drums, electric bass and acoustic guitar solos to soft jazz with piano, stand-up bass and brushes to modern folk with acoustic bass, slide guitar and hand drums. The playful lyrics in these pieces inspire a positive attitude about life. Christie grew up with a musical family in a small island community steeped in folk and bluegrass, and has enjoyed singing and playing various musical instruments since the tender age of four. Her own style draws from that heritage and incorporates influences from other genres as well. Her sound has been compared to Sheryl Crow, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, and Rickie Lee Jones. Christie performs at venues around the Seattle area singing her upbeat originals accented with catchy acoustic guitar rhythms and finger picking. Listeners can relate to the personal and meaningful nature of her songs. "Road to Sunnyside" was engineered and produced at North Seattle's Fastback Studios, and mastered at Seattle Disc Mastering in Shoreline, WA. All songs on the disc are family friendly.
