Tony Rice, Larry Rice, Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen first met as part of the Southern California bluegrass/folk scene in the '60s, going on to associations with the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Bros. And Desert Rose Band among others. Their previous album, Out of the Woodwork, is a strong seller and each band member has a loyal fan base. This album finds the group exploring a range of bluegrass and acoustic country via a set of both originals and covers (such as the Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil").
