Chuck Foster hosts Reggae Central on KPFK in LA, penned the Reggae Update column for Beat Magazine and is the author of Roots Rock Reggae: An Oral History of Reggae Music From Ska To Dancehall (Billboard Books, 1999) and The Small Axe Guide To Rocksteady (Muzik Tree, 2009). Perseverance is his first solo reggae release and he's aided here by some top California and Jamaican musicians. Though he doesn't sing in patois, Chuck has immersed himself in all forms of reggae for many years and bring a fresh approach to straight-up reggae riddims with a set of all original material blending a Southern Caliofornia vibe with Jamaican roots. From the calypso-inflected reggae of 'I'm Happy So I Sing' through personal tunes like 'Let That Girl Go By' to message tunes like 'Promised Land,' 'Any Road,' 'All We Can Do' and 'In Zion' Chuck brings a unique perspective and a passionate commitment to the music that he loves.
