Although One Nil is only Neil Finn's second solo album (after Try Whistling This), his songwriting contribution extends across the decades. As chief songwriter and founder of Crowded House, songwriter for Split Enz and collaborator with brother Tim, Neil Finn is very definitely one of the most profound songwriters of our time. One Nil is classic Neil Finn, while collaborators Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman (part of Prince's Revolution in the early 80s) weave a subtle influence on this record too. Great pop structures swell into this album's dense layers of instrumentation and insightful lyrics. One Nil is classic songwriting at it's best.
