Great news! Tannis has just been named 'Contemporary Vocalist of the Year' by the Canadian Folk Music Awards for her second album 'Lucky Blue'. (Nov/08) Look for the link to it on the lower left of this page. Tannis is a songstress (singer/songwriter/player) living in Guelph, Ontario who has spent many years performing, recording and touring with bands such as The Bird Sisters and Benji. With the 2001 release of 'Oak Lake', she finally stepped forward as a solo artist, although her passion for vocal harmony and collaboration is certainly evident on this album. Her next album, 'Lucky Blue', has been lucky indeed. Named after her hometown on the Canadian prairies, the album is a tip of the hat to her early musical roots. Eight original tunes and two covers complete this sweet roots/rock production. Selected reviews: 'The greatest strength of this record, and at the same time, it's most subtle aspect, is Slimmon's keen sense of harmony. By virtue of her layered vocal melodies, combined with the sincerity of her lyrics, you feel this record as much as you listen to it.' - Scott Messenger (Penguin Eggs) 'Slimmon's main tool is her strong soprano voice, which she wields in expertly crafted harmonies with both male and female vocal accompanists, and with herself as well. In all cases, the voices skillfully mix in tight, soulful harmonies. Slimmon's voice in isolation sounds remarkably like those of her fellow Canadian singers, Sarah McLachlan and Sarah Harmer.' - Sing Out! 'The well-wrought tunes are joyous exhibitions of vocal harmony as Tannis accompanies herself on guitar and mandolin. This album has a full, contemporary rootsy sound entirely accessible to fans of country, pop and AAA. Each track builds onto the previous reaching a jubilant plateau in 'My Body Moves' featuring a bright trumpet line.' - Tom 'Tearaway' Schulte (Outsight e-zine)
