The Dave Rawlinson Band is all about Boomers and Boomer music. Most of the band members are "Boomers", so they enjoy performing music loved by the baby boomer generation: classic rock, jazz/rock, country rock, and country and western styles. However, this is not just another "cover band". Although they perform some cover material, singer/songwriter Dave Rawlinson has crafted over 40 original songs in the last four years. Additionally, the Dave Rawlinson Band has released two albums on compact disc, "Workin' Man" (December 2006) and "Movin' On" (March 2008). Current plans are in place to release a third album in the spring of 2010. However, you're probably wondering about the people that make up the Dave Rawlinson Band? Here they are... Dave Rawlinson Dave Rawlinson is an Associate Professor at Central Washington University where he teaches computer network courses. He has a B.A. in Computer Science and a J.D. from South Texas College of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas (inactive) and a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (The Grammys). Dave has been performing music for over 3 decades and still loves the relationship between his music and his audience. It was his love of musical performance for live audiences that caused him to search for the right combination of musicians to form a band. Realizing that the first ingredient for any successful band is a solid rhythm section, his first stop on that search was just across the hall: drummer and Central Washington University Professor Robert Lupton. Robert Lupton Bob Lupton is a man of many passions, but the three most important to Bob are family, teaching and rock & roll! During the day, Lupton is a Professor of Retail Management and Technology at Central Washington University. However, when the sun goes down, he morphs into a powerful rock drummer with the necessary finesse for ballads and jazz. Bob brings solid percussive experience to the band, including an early stint with Todd Park Mohr before the formation of Big Head Todd & The Monsters. Of course, there are at least two ingredients to any rhythm recipe, so Lupton has a fabulous partner in creating the 'bottom' to the band's music, bassist Caspar van Haalen. Caspar van Haalen Originally from the Netherlands, Caspar van Haalen has a Master's degree in English and teaches for a high school ELL program. He performed with several excellent Dutch bands before moving to the US, earning his U.S. citizenship in 2006. Caspar provides critical input on arrangements for the band's music and his five-string Ken Smith bass guitar and original sound will instantly get your attention. Once van Haalen and Lupton agreed to give the band a try, Rawlinson went looking for a talented and distinctive lead guitarist. That guitarist is Robert Pieters. Robert Pieters During the day, Bob Pieters works at Central Washington University, quietly providing support and services to faculty and staff for over 20 years. However, Pieters' has an 'electric' side to his personality. He has been playing rock and country guitar for over 40 years. Pieters' Telecaster, Strat and Gibson SG guitar riffs instantly identify the band's music. Now that Bob Pieters agreed to give the band a try, Dave only had to look across the table for the next band member, his daughter, Alexandra Rawlinson. Alexandra Rawlinson Alexandra Rawlinson plays classical piano for fun and sings lead and harmony vocals with the band. Because she has been listening to her father's music her entire life, she knows every nuisance and inflection of every song her dad sings. Dave states that, "When she sings harmonies with me, it's like I'm singing my own harmonies! She's amazing!" Alexandra studies vocal performance at Central Washington University with Associate Professor Vijay Singh. She hopes to perform with the band over the next few years, then attend graduate school and enjoy a career in opera! Listen for her sultry, ethereal background vocals on the "Movin' On" album, especially on the title song. Lenny Price Lenny Price is known as the phenomenally talented saxophonist with jazz guitarist and Grammy Award winner, Earl Klugh. Although not an "official" member of the Dave Rawlinson Band, he is a valued collaborator and close friend of the band. Lenny provided professional arrangement as well as sax and wind synth performances for the band's second album, "Movin' On" and is currently working with the band on the next CD. When someone asks Dave Rawlinson about his favorite song, Dave always replies, "Lenny's alto sax solo on 'I'm By Myself' is the best solo I've ever heard!" Lenny appears with the Dave Rawlinson Band courtesy of Midshipman Records.
