I didn't realize when I began composing songs for this third CD, that the lyrics would become so relevant to what I consider to be the most dangerous time I've ever spent on this planet! Combining childrens songs with words of wisdom from this Crone has been tricky, yet profoundly rewarding. Below please find a letter I've written in the CD insert. I think it best describes the musical mood of this original work. Dear Great, Great, Great, Great Grandchildren, This CD embraces the magical relationship between grandparents and grandchildren, or elderhood and childhood on the Medicine Wheel. I am at home there, as I am with my family of origin. My Nordic folk have remembered and honored our own ancestors, keeping excellent records throughout hundreds of years. Hence, I trust these songs will find a safe place in our archives so you can still listen a hundred years from now. Here's what I want you to know: There were millions upon millions of courageous Peacemakers and Earth Stewards living on the planet during the early twenty-first century. These kindred spirits were brave 'old souls' indeed, who could not be fooled by mainstream forces constantly promoting fear and violence. We knew instinctively that war was not appropriate -- Was it ever? -- and that global problems MUST be solved through peaceful measures. We were the keepers of wisdom, the visionaries, the deep-ecologists, the REAL warriors and chiefs. We were long-sighted and knew that what we did today would affect you -- seven generations down the good red road! You are already in my thoughts. Till the day I die, I promise you I will speak for those who have no voice, sing and dance songs of Spirit, strive for world peace, get into mischief, and, above all, never give up! In the Spirit of the Wolf, the Hawk, the Trees, the Rivers, the Ancestors, Your great, great, great, great grandmother, Kristi Cowles Kristi Cowles Biography In 1990, Kristi founded Singing Wolf Center and Pederson Victorian B&B and in 1998, Singing Wolf Productions. A feisty cultural pioneer, she holds a Master of Arts in East/West Psychology from the CaliforniaInstitute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. Her undergraduate work was in psychology and philosophy at Alverno College. Her first CD, 'Shagbark Hickory Spirit' contains fourteen original songs. Her second,'A Thousand Times I've Thought of You,' is dedicated to her brother, GregCowles, who died in 1998. Her third CD, 'Woman of the North,' debuts in April of 2003. This CD 'talks turkey,' yet all of Kristi's CDs offer the listener heart, meaning, and a rootedness that tends to be missing in present American culture.
