Julie Cross & Susan McDaniel - Songs of Forgotten Women

Songs of Forgotten Women is a unique album consisting of four composers whose music has not yet been professionally recorded in the United States. Giulia Recli, Adela Maddison, Mathilde von Kralik, and Bertha Frensel Wegener-Koopman all composed music around the turn of the last century in their respective countries: Italy, England, Germany, and the Netherlands. This album is their premiere, 100 years in the making! Julie Cross, Assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Susan McDaniel, Instructor at Linfield College and former pianist of the Seattle and San Diego Opera Companies, got together to find this music, research it, translate texts, and record it. Through this CD they founded Beatritz Records, named after the first female troubadour. They hope to discover more music of forgotten women and look forward to future recording projects together. This album was created with a grant from the University of Wisconsin System and received a positive review in the Spring 2010 Journal of the International Alliance for Women in Music. It was engineered by Buzz Kemper, Audio for the Arts, Madison, WI.
