I have been helped by and been moved to tears by both Joni and Leonard's music since I was in college. After reading GIRLS LIKE US, i found out that Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen had been lovers for a short time in the sixties, and that they have been friends for life. I was captured by the intense emotion in their lyrics and melodies and the fact that they were Canadians made it even more interesting. I found their music had eternal truths and wisdom and beauty all wrapped up together in song. Why not bring them back together in Concert? Was that too far out? Would it hang together? Would people understand why the two of them should be together musically? Yes they would. So, i put together performances of their songs and started doing concerts in Canada, then Australia and found more people than i ever realized, felt the same way about their music. We need this music now and finally people are heading back to the eternal truths found in these songs. The audiences went crazy for the music- the passion, the intensity and how they compliment each other in the light and dark, the joyful and depressing. They both know the emotional roller coaster that is a life intensely lived and filled with lovers and friends, loss and giddy love. These are songs with emotional legs and heart and soul and so they move people. That is why I chose to record them with my band. These songs have stuck by me through many years and I felt the need to share them. They need to be heard and I love to perform them.
