Some buyers assumed that this collection contained original versions of Charley Pride's major hits on RCA, but, in fact, both volumes of Platinum Pride offer new versions, although all of them use the original arrangements and sound a lot like the old RCA versions. This CD's focus is on the hits he had between 1966-1974, and when the singer revisits "I'm Just Me," "I'm Afraid of Losing You Again," "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone," and other gems that went to number one on the country charts, it's obvious that his voice had held up well. Another high point of the disc is Hank Williams' amusing "Kaw-Liga," which had been a number three hit for Pride in 1969. But as enjoyable as Platinum Pride, Vol. 1 is, novices would be much better off starting out with a collection of his RCA recordings. This is for completists and for Pride's more devoted fans only. ~ Alex Henderson
