Recorded in November 2011, Northside Soul showcases the fine songwriting and soulful vocals of Marion James against a musical backdrop steeped in blues, soul, funk and jazz. The opening track, 'I Fell,', features a grooving piano track reminiscent of Carole King along with a BB King/Steve Cropper influenced guitar sound. Southern Soul is in effect on 'Smokin' Hot' and 'I know a Good Thing;' while the Funk of James Brown has found it's place in songs like 'Man Size Job,' 'Mr. Blues,' and Willie Dixon's 'I Just Want to Make Love to You.' the socially conscious and gospel-influenced 'Corrupted World' finds Marion commenting on the world today and what we need to do to change things for future generations to come.
