Former Basie Tenor Saxophonist Paul Quinichette leads this tentet (of Basie alum) in a swinging session. Quinichette's nickname was "Vice Prez," because of his similar style and sound to "Prez" (Lester Young). Nat Pierce who had done a considerable amount of arranging for the Basie Band does all of the arrangements & plays piano on this session. "Sweets" Edison (trumpet), Jo Jones (drums) and Al Grey (trombone) are among the Jazz giants given solos on this reissue. The ensemble work adds the Basie texture to each and every song. The rest of the Basie-ites are Snooky Young, Shad Collins and Dick Vance (trumpets), Eddie Jones (bass) and the Count's right hand man Freddie Green (rhythm guitar). This 1959 United Artists reissue is 24 bit re-mastered with new liner notes by renowned Jazz critic C. Andrew Hovan.
