Sarah Gardner may be the Laurie Berkner of Children's Jazz. Along with some of dixieland's legends, Sarah brings songs from the 1920's-present to kids for a romping good time. Kids hear the old standards from their perspective. For instance, Hello Dolly is a song about finding a lost toy. Pennies from Heaven is about enjoying a rainy day. After years of performing music for preschoolers, Sarah combined her Jazz roots with her love for entertaining kids. The Bear Missed The Train's playful lines between instruments make a person easily imagine a bear going after the train he missed. Bill keeps that train rolling with a delightful drum break seemingly answering when Sarah sings 'Show me how he walks!' Sarah's vocal style ranges from sounding straight out of a 1930's Jazz club in Crazy About my Baby, to an expressive playfulness that 4 year olds can seriously enjoy in the Penguin Dance. A lot of songs have 'baby' in the title but it is really for kids of any age who like fun music. 'I really hope this is one of those cds that never comes out of the minivan.' she says. Sarah's father, Herb, is a jazz man. He plays trombone and piano on the CD, and wrote most of the arrangements. He leads the Stan Rubin Orchestra, a 16pc Big Band and the Tigertown Five down in NYC. 'But he is a Red Sox fan!' she quickly adds. 'He plays with the Winiker Brothers Orchestra and Eli Newberger's All Stars all over New England too.' Reeds legend Ted Casher leaves his stylish trademarks all over the album. He plays a bit of Klezmer on the Bear Missed the Train, a smooth syncopated tenor on My Baby Just Cares for Me and a rockin' solo in My Baby Loves me. Bo Winiker's trumpet style is authentic New Orleans 'Satch' on Keeping Out of Mischief Now. Bassist Craig Akin brings the swing! 'It isn't often that kids sing or even remember bass lines, but they do when Craig plays them.' Sarah says. Abbie Gardner of Red Molly co-produced the album, wrote Hello Goodbye, and provided background vocals. Red Molly's latest album 'The Red Album' was also released this April. The song My Baby Loves Me, written by Molly Venter, was released on both albums. We hope people download both versions of the song and have epic online arguments over which one they like most! As usual for Sarah and Abbie, it's all in good fun.
