Japan's Yoshida Brothers are something of an anomaly. Rock stars with classical roots, and their music showcases the place where tradition meets youthful irreverence. Both Kenichi and Ryoichiro play the Tsugaru-Shamisen (a 3 stringed instrument similar to a banjo or lute) but with a twist. The brothers began playing together at age 5, and their debut disc in 1999 sold over 100,000 units, impressive considering that most Tsugaru- Shamisen albums sell only about 5,000 units. HISHOU, Japanese for "flight", continues the amalgam of modern and traditional music.
