The hand jive originated in London during the 1950's (it was said to be because there was insufficient room for dancing, so patrons of the coffee clubs would wave their hands in time with the music!) but the song was ultimately popularized by Johnny Otis and his 1958 smash Willie And the Hand Jive. A #9 pop hit in the US, it was to be his only top ten success but did prompt a follow-up album that has long been something of a collector's item. Hallmark.
