2016 release. After two fan-funded studio recordings and nearly four years touring the US as an independent act traversing the continent in a small VW hatchback, San Francisco-based Quiles & Cloud (Maria and Rory, respectively) have teamed up with Grammy-award-winning artist and producer Alison Brown for Beyond The Rain. Human emotion and world strife play out as central themes throughout the album. "We're often drawn to songs with a bit of darkness in them," says Cloud. "Topics like mortality and loss come up fairly often, but it's not all bad. We always find a ray of sunlight in there somewhere. Like overcoming fear, or accepting the past and finding something worthwhile beyond the darkness. That's kind of what the album title (Beyond The Rain) is all about." With Beyond The Rain, Quiles & Cloud have marked a pivotal moment in their development as a group, demonstrating their continued ability to combine subtle precision with stark grit and creative exploration.
