Lund is a university town in Sweden with an eclectic music scene. It's about one hour's drive to the nearest large town, Malmö, and eight hours to Stockholm. In the Winter, there are only a few hours of sunlight but the creative energy in Lund is boundless. Lund Records was formed a few years ago by local record and video producers, among them the well-known Apollon Bild & Film. DAMN! Was formed at a 1995 Swedish festival hosting DJ's and live bands. DAMN! Is itself comprised of DJ's and live musicians in one act. The music from the DJ's records are spiced with live drums, bongos, congas, moog, bass (electric & acoustic), and wicked samples. The meltdown of live instruments and DJ's comes across as an exciting live remix, both spontaneous and wild. Damn is popular with the dance audience. Everything DAMN! ^#^plays has a phat groove, either on the record or live. The spectrum of ground grooves ranges from old crazy funk to jazz or drum n'bass. DAMN! ^#^have their own club in Malmö and played the biggest festivals in Sweden last summer: Hultsfred, Lollipop, etc. Natural Sounds, their debut album contains the cult hit, 'Stinky Stinky Ashtray,' also released on numerous collections all over the world. DAMN! Was chosen as the best club act in Sweden by N'jesguiden -96 (the biggest event magazine in Sweden). All instruments: Måns Svante, Måns Block, Måns Mernsten. MUTTS formed in Malmo in 1994 and is known in Sweden as an excellent live act. Their recording debut was in Spring, 1996 with the EP, I Need Needles. This EP received lots of attention from radio stations, newspapers and magazines. The follow-up single, 'I Need You,' was released in October, followed by the album, Mutts, in 1997. MUTTS will do around 50 live performances this year. They recently supported Weezer. The band spent three weeks in the studio recording their Mutts, an album of 13 excellent rock/pop songs. United Stage, one of the biggest Swedish booking agencies, is now in charge of their live bookings and MUTTS regularly tours Sweden. Hakan Akesson: guitar/vocals; Fredrik Svensson: drums; Tommy Nilsson: bass; all songs by Hakan Akesson. LANGHORNS are the best-known surf instrumental band in Sweden. They started playing a couple of years ago after the band members had an epiphany and became inspired to make something of their lives. Originally, the only members were Michael Sellers (guitar) and Martin Berglund (bass guitar). After a few rehearsals they decided it was time to find a drummer who could not only play the drums, but be a nice guy, too. They ended up with a compromise: Rikard Swardh. After playing surf-instrumentals at various clubs and parties, LANGHORNS went into the studio for two days last summer. The net result was their debut album, Langhorns, released February 28, 1998 on Lund/Bad Taste Records. The album contains 9 original songs. The LANGHORNS album also contains the CD-ROM game, 'Shark Attack', made exclusively for the album by ZOO Multimedia. By following the browser link, one should be able to play the game on the Net. Rikard Swardh: drums; Martin Berglund: bass; Michael Sellers: guitars. FAVORITA plays music designed for the next century. All four members contribute their own unique interpretations of sound and rhythm to create their music. The result is an unusual mix of experimental rock/pop that makes the listener take notice. Singer songwriter Magnus Borjeson was previously in BEAGLE, a great pop band that released two albums on Polygram. PULP's Jarvis Cocker was so impressed with FAVORITA's sound, he invited them to support PULP on their '96 tour of Sweden. After the tour, FAVORITA went into the studio and recorded their debut album with the singles 'Seven Comforts' and 'I Can Change the World'. Video: FAVORITA are also inspired video artists. The video, 'Seven Comforts,' directed by keyboardist Benjamin Peetre with Petter Lonegard, is a spectacular display of graphics and sound. FAVORITA has always been keen on computer graphics, so for their first video FAVORITA used Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere and Dimensions to make the video. 'Seven Comforts' has repeatedly been on MTV Europe. Single: Seven Comforts/I Found Out/II; single: I Can Change the World/Bodily decline; Album: Favorita Fredik Blank: guitar; Magnus Borjeson: bass; Benjamin Peetre: keyboard; Conny Stade: drums. POETIZED began in the summer of 1992 with a couple of low-key jam sessions in drummer Clemens Martenssons' bedroom. During one session, Oliver Hallquist, originally a guitarist, grabbed the microphone and started rapping. Shortly after that Erik Hjarpe, a keyboard player with a jazz-oriented background, joined. The resultant music was intricate and diverse, reminiscent of the dark vibes from some hip-hop records. The group released it's first demo tape, 'Rock Me,' with a cover showing a bear in chains. By now they could no longer use their bedroom as a rehearsal room, and soon the band had to squeeze themselves into a rusty Volvo Amazon and relocate to an empty factory building in another town to rehearse. They developed a heavy, bass-flavored rhythmic style even as their music grew simpler and more song-oriented. They produced a second demo featuring the track, 'Come Alien,' a laid-back, happy funk ballad with lyrics welcoming extraterrestrials to visit and make friends. By now the band had begun playing all over Sweden and gradually developed their live act. For a while they wore masks and bizarre costumes to add to the exotic atmosphere of their music, and they even had a moving robot with glowing eyes onstage with them during gigs. POETIZED's hometown, Lund, was elected 'Pop Town of 1996' (whatever that means!), but thanks to this the band got to play live on Swedish national radio. Lund Records then signed the band. Their debut EP was recorded during the winter of 1995-96 in Tamburine Studios, Malmo, and was entirely self-produced. Compared to earlier material, these tracks are simpler, more song-oriented, and display a more rock-influenced side of the band Oliver Hallquist: vocals; Erik Hjarpe: keyboards; Gustav Lindroth: bass; Mattias Nihlen: guitar; Clemens Martensson: drums. THE CREEPS have extensively toured in every western European country since 1986, including numerous rock festivals.
