Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) remains one of the most fascinating figures in musical history and this year the entire world is celebrating the 90th anniversary of her birth. A cloistered nun who stuffed from debilitating migraines, she carved out a unique place for herself in the religious and political scene of the 12th Century. Not only was she skilled composer, but she was also a talented painter and writer. This disc features a selection from the different types of religious music she composed, from hymns to antiphons to sequences. Hildegard's music is based on medieval traditions and Gregorian Chant, but her inspiration far exceeds the confines of the time. A must-have for music lovers.
