As a child, Charlie listened to artists like Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers and Brenda Lee. With the advent of the 60's and the Beatles, their music ignited a passion in Charlie to learn to play the guitar. He picked up a cast off Silvertone acoustic guitar that his mother had purchased for a younger brother and taught himself to play. He began writing songs influenced by the great singer-songwriters of the 60s and 70s; James Taylor, Carole King, Simon & Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, John Denver, Jim Croce and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young to name a few. Charlie has written both 'secular' music and 'liturgical' music growing out of his involvement with the Life Teen Program. In 2008, Charlie won the National Guitar Workshop's Songwriting Contest in Nashville, Tennessee with a tune entitled, 'It's Only Rain.' In 2012, he earned two Honorable Mentions at the Smoky Mountains Songwriter's Festival in Gatlinburg. Charlie has also done freelance writing for Acoustic Guitar Magazine and in 2013 published a book entitled 'Every Guitar Tells a Story' available through Lulu Publishing and Amazon. Charlie currently resides in Nashville where he continues as a singer-songwriter and freelance writer.
