The Louisville born keyboardist also was ahead of his time, having helped to introduce soul grooves to the jazz mainstream. The music on these 1967 and 68 sessions, both featuring the surging tenor saxophones of Houston Person & Earl Edwards, prefigures that of Smith's significant crossover's of the 70's and paved thw way for the acid jazz of the 90's.
