It was the collaboration between Scott Perrie and Jeremy Breaks that gave birth to Redgy Blackout. As an acoustic duo they wrote and developed these songs for over two years. Their debut album, The Leap, is the culmination of those two years of hard work and determination. 'The Leap' is about looking life square in the eye and living with more awareness on Planet Earth, a world we all inhabit and depend on. The opening track states 'it's time to take a leap of faith, a leap of faith or nothing at all' something they felt they were doing when recording this album. The swingin' track 'Go Getter GIrl' is about girls from west 4th avenue in Kits, an upscale part of Vancouver, with the playfully lyric 'She's got to have everything brand new!' The introspective 'Who Am I' is a peppy song about searching for self with a strong chorus that goes 'I don't know just who I am, who am I? So how can I become a Man? Become a Man!' Scott's trumpets sings on 'Go Getter Girl' and 'Who Am I' as well as 'Transformation', a song that also features Jeremy Breaks on the banjo. In 'Peace of Mind' a reggae influenced track Patrick Poirier's drums shine through and allows Jeremy to lay down the best guitar work on the album in an almost Radiohead like fashion guitar solo. Throughout the album the bass is solid and expressive, particularly on 'S.O.S.' where Colin Medhurst fingers dance on the fret board while he slaps his bass strings. The four of them all fuse together to create am album that has a fresh retro sound. Of the album Scott says, 'One of the most important things to me is singing from the heart and trying to convey that to our audience. WIth this album I hope that you can hear how it was a labour of love from everyone involved and I hope that you take 'The Leap' with us.' 'The Leap' was recorded at DCM Studios in Deep Cove and The Honey Box in East Van from Jan to March 2008.
