Spirited singer/songwriter Janie Oliver's debut album, Lay Down, is an eclectic fusion of pop, folk, jazz and electronic influences weaved together by the strength of Oliver's voice and her collaboration with seasoned producer Robert Cross. Reminiscent of artists like Annie Lennox, Beth Orton, Norah Jones and Sade, Lay Down upholds the vocal standards of her predecessors while the disc's cool melodies keep her music light without losing poignancy. "Dive to You" is an addictive intro to the album and "The Memories" has the tone of a modern and melodic Ella Fitzgerald. Her range, talent and support don't confine Oliver to a genre although she never hides her influences. Supporting artists on the album include Marcus Urani of Groundation, Michael Israel formerly of Flock of Seagulls and Robert Cross of Deepfried, among other Bay Area musicians. With so much going for her music, Oliver's album is nearly impossible to Lay Down.
