A generous mix of instrumental and choral music from Advent to Christmas and throughout the new year all composed and arranged by Artist Mary Lynn Place Badarak. 'Moon of Wintertime' features both choral and French horn quartet tracks, and is a wonderful example of Mary's unique style: evocative, surprising, complicated and accessible simultaneously. Those of you who value well-crafted composition and are already acquainted with her music know that there is no better constructor of counterpoint on the classical contemporary scene today than Mary Lynn Place Badarak. She works her craft of sound-in-time with great intelligence, subtly sustaining mood and sensitivity to text throughout; this alone is a tribute to her mastery. Furthermore, anyone who has sung or played her music will agree that it's a distinct pleasure to work up a piece, and that these pieces stick with you for a long and happy time. Advent is an original carol that evokes first the stillness and quiet anticipation of that season. From an ostinato 'waiting and watching', it grows more impatient and insistent, as the eye and ear begin to discern a long awaited promise fulfilled. Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day gets a fresh new treatment here with modern syncopations underneath the old English tune. The arrangement advances, becoming more complex and going through a number of different dance styles in a fun mix of madrigal meets Swingle Singers. Dona Nobis Pacem is a lyrical and contemplative setting, the simplicity and directness of the text is matched by the music. The ancient prayer is presented in both Latin and English, making it's message both universal and contemporary. Contributing to the album 'In the Moon of Wintertime' are dear friends and brilliant artists: the professional choir Cantat, under the direction of Mary Badarak, Lydia Madrick, accompanist; Peter Ulffers, French horn; Eric Parker, tenor; Mark Cleveland, Flute; Sid Fendley, bells; and Daniel Ward, guitar.
