Joseph Sobol - In the Deep Heart's Core: I Am of Ireland 1

Joseph Sobol: composer, guitarist and cittern player, folklorist, and author Joseph Sobol is an artist of wide-ranging accomplishments. He received a Doctorate in Performance Studies from Northwestern University in 1994, and toured the country from 1994 through 1999 with his award-winning musical theatre piece In the Deep Heart's Core based on the works of Irish poet W. B. Yeats. During his eleven years in Chicago, where he performed regularly with some of America's top Irish traditional musicians, Joseph developed a ground-breaking finger-style technique for playing traditional Irish and Celtic music on cittern, guitar, mandolin, and banjo. He has released a cassette and five CDs of music and stories, alone and with his group Kiltartan Road. He has been a featured performer and teacher at Zoukfest, the Swannanoa Gathering, and the Seattle Cittern Symposium, and was a featured soloist in the world premiere performance of William Jackson's 'Dunn Albanach' suite at the 2002 Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow. Along with solo concerts of music, song, and story, he performs frequently with fiddler Trae McMaken, singer Kathy Cowan, and others. Since 2000 he has directed the Graduate Program in Storytelling at East Tennessee State University.
