Brooke Kelly - From the Ashes

For here debut recording From the Ashes, singer/songwriter Brooke Kelly was in search of something different. In the modern age of slick production and digital everything, From the Ashes was recorded with vintage instruments and straightforward arrangements, resulting in a warm organic recording. Recorded at George Heid's Studio in Aspinwall, PA and engineered by Grammy nominated Dino Distefano, producer/arranger Wayne Smith chose a cast of musicians that would be sympathetic to Brooke's subtle, relaxed vocals. Pianist Rick Gallagher, well respected in the Pittsburgh jazz community for his two critically acclaimed recording (A Sleigh a Song & a Baby Boy, Sweet Potato Eyebrows), plays beautifully on the 1920's Steinway piano creating a big yet intimate sound. Drummer Ray DeFade, best known for his work in the Gathering Field, a long with Brian Stahurski on acoustic upright bass lay down a solid foundation. Smith plays guitar, lap slide, pump organ and numerous other instruments on the recording. Brooke Kelly has always had music be a significant part of her life, whether it be playing the occasional club or regularly at her church. She has selected pieces that speak to her heart, with hopes of making the same connection with the listener. From the Ashes is a solid organic recording to announce Brooke Kelly's debut.
