After 4 years of doing disaster recovery work (a very unexpected career), Julia Lashae was finally able to finish the CD she had started just before Hurricane Katrina hit. The CD, which started with a new sound for this former swing artist, took on a whole new life and direction, as a metaphor for the rebuilding in her personal life and in the life of the city she loves. On her sophomore album, Eadem Mutato Resurgo ("although changed, I rise again the same"), Julia pays homage to some of her favorite songwriters - Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Paul McCartney, Tom Waits and Noel Gallagher with modern jazz arrangements of some of her favorite tunes. She also includes modern arrangements of a couple of jazz standards and one original, "Curly Brown Hair". This is a song that she wrote after Katrina about finding your anchor in the storm. Julia has truly evolved since her early days with Johnny Angel & the Swingin' Demons and since her first, more traditional, album of jazz standards. Now she expresses what's in her soul with a more modern, sophisticated jazz sound. This singer also leads a double life as an actress, having appeared in character roles in films such as Last Holiday, Because of Winn Dixie, and the upcoming feature, My Own Love Song.
