The Salt Miners - Dressed for Excess

In Detroit, it is hard to find a sound not produced by machine. From they hum of the production line to the scream of the blast furnace, the sound of industry fills the air. Under the din, you can hear five guys singing and playing their hearts out, returning to a simpler way of making music. These guys are The Salt Miners, Detroit's Finest and Best Dressed Old Time String Band. They are the band on the corner singing for their dinner. They are the band in the factory bar singing old union songs and giving the workers hope. They are the band forcing you to clap and sing along so that everything in your life is put aside for at least one moment. Beginning their musical journey in 2001, the band was born out of individuals who each followed a disparate path to the music that would become their common ground. For once in their lives, music had simply become a means to have fun. As the band began playing more frequently and to larger audiences, they decided that they should give the crowds something to take home so they recorded their first album, 2004's 'A Good Time To Be Had'. Recorded live in the studio, the album succeeded in capturing the looseness and inclusiveness that were a staple of their live show. Running on the strength of this first album, the band began making road trips to ply their trade in other towns all over the Midwest, making friends and fans in every town they played. They demanded attention by showing up in suits, standing on barstools, screaming for sing-alongs, playing shows in the street after the bars were closed. They will do anything to make sure their audience never forgets their time at a Salt Miners' show. After some line-up shifts, the band set out to capture it's newly focused direction. The result was 2005's 'Dressed For Excess'. This is to be the true document of The Salt Miners. Collecting some live favorites and some songs that are seeing their first light with it's release, the album is a slick, well-dressed collection of fourteen songs that will ring in your head for a long time to come. The band continues to expand it's audience through relentless performing to an increasing number of towns and enthusiastic crowds.
