'This is one Top Notch release. Although the image on the front made me think the music would be a parody of bad in the field indigenous folk tunes, the music is pure Gypsy rhythm complete with an array of hand drums and stringed instruments such as the Arabic tabla and the sitar guitar. The music on this disc of instrumental tunes sounds like it comes from the same place that inspired so many Dead Can Dance songs. There are a few songs including 'Subata' and 'Jurjuna' which reminded me of a more subdued Dudley and Coleman melody. If you enjoy percussion music like many of the tracks on Mickey Hart's 'The Big Bang' then this is a must have.' - Mite Mutant, The ChickenFish Speaks 'I love the upbeat lively rhythms' - WHFR Radio 'This is Music for ritual, for dance, for meditation. HIGHLY recommended.' -Facing North Robin Anders dons yet another persona and takes you on a tour of the back streets of Central Asia fusing a bunch of sounds that sound familiar but not quite. Once you know who is behind this, you can expect the twists and turns with the proper perspective that you his rock chops and world beat ear will take you on. Music to lead you down the Souks of your mind. You can almost see the opium smoke wafting in the air around you as the music goes on it's own way. A great set of worldbeat exotics.' -Midwest Record Recap Most often with some effect of accompanying droning strings with rhythmical ethno-trances, The Darbuki Kings deliver an almost hpno-danceable pathway and journey to different countries and their traditions, with improvisational playing, but also, more often, with multi-layered arrangements......their tracks consist of Middle Eastern percussion with strummed dance-melodic arrangements. -Psyche Van Het Folk About The Darbuki Kings They are known by many names in many lands. This is the true Gypsy Heart; the one that demands adventure, challenge and new experience. The very fuel of the spirits fire....... The Darbuki Kings are RobibAdnan Anders (a.k.a. Adnan Darbuki Mustaphason the Striking Viking, on percussion and many instuments and Antonio Alberran on strings and percussion. Robin hit the Billboard Top 100 with two different bands by the time he was 18. Meeting Adnan Sarhan, a Sufi master from Bagdad, changed everything. He went on to study many various disciplines from around the world. From film scores for National Geographic to jamming with Mapenzi and the original Worldbeat ( San Francisco is where the term was coined) bands in the Bay Area, to being invited to the World Sacred Music Festival in Morocco to perform with ancient musical schools and Sufi Musicians from all over the world, Robin continues to explore the boundaries of World Fusion. He won both first and second place at the National Independent Record Distributors Awards (NAIRD) in the world music category for his work in the groups' 3Mustaphas3'and 'Boiled in Lead'. He has performed with such varied artists as The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Ani Difranco, Greg Brown and Butch Warren from Thelonius Monk's band.
