Wagner Petrilli - Confissao

Confissão is guitarist and composer Wagner Petrilli's debut solo CD and features incredible soloists from Brazil and Canada, including the incomparable Guinga, bossa nova songstress Leila Pinheiro, cavaquinho master Henrique Cazes, the innovative Filó Machado and many more. The CD includes songs with strong percussive sections in a samba style, juxtaposed with melodic ballads that spotlight strings and woodwinds. Some songs have a jazz feel, while others were written in a Brazilian choro or bossa nova style. Not only is this CD a fusion of styles, but also a blending of cultures and musical communities. Although he hadn't had a lot of formal training, as a teenager and young adult he performed with a number of bands around the Sao Paulo region. In 1998, Wagner moved to Canada with one ambition - to pursue a career in music. Since that time he has performed, recorded and collaborated with many amazing musicians. 'This whole album is so good. It's really giving me energy.' - CD listener The songs on this CD were either written or co-written by Wagner, but the work was very collaborative from the beginning. This project blends his life as a Canadian with his roots as a Brazilian, and the artists featured on the CD represent that. 27 artists from Canada and Brazil came together to fulfill the vision Wagner set in motion all those years ago, including a core band, a string quartet, a group of percussionists, as well as five vocalists from Brazil and many more featured solo instrumentalists.
