The Emergency hijacked Jim Diamond's (Dirtbombs, White Stripes) Ghetto Recorders studio in Detroit, arriving in a rented U-Haul on Monday and leaving with a trailer full of rock 'n' roll on Friday. With a box full of cool vintage gear to play with, the band took a few liberties with their signature high-energy, guitar driven live show to add in organ, tambourine (thanks, Jim!) and that beloved cowbell. Can You Dig It? is a fast-paced rock 'n' roll record with soul. The Emergency blasted onto the Northwest scene in 2005, packing 70 shows into one short year. Dita Vox's Karen O. meets Tina Turner vocals carry the lead into wild abandon while Sonic Smith (guitar), Nick Detroit (bass) and Tom T. Drummer (drums) bring the frenzied rock in the back-field. Their sound is a melding of the best bits of Iggy Pop's garage punk and the heavy soul of early Rolling Stones. The result has caught the locals abuzz. Tom Scanlon of the Seattle Times writes "The emergence of the Emergency is one of the bright spots of Seattle music this year..." Standard Jewel Case.
