Singer/Songwriter John Michael Hersey reflects on his time in prison with heartbreak, humor and hope on his new CD, ADIRONDACK. Hersey was an inmate at the Adirondack Correctional Facility in upstate New York. The songs on ADIRONDACK chronicle his journey from darkness to light, with the musical styles and lyrical moods varying greatly along the way. The title tune is a deceptively simple country folk ballad with an ironic twist. In the waltz rock "A Difficult Man" Hersey poignantly takes stock of the mixed emotions that can accompany loss. With tongue only slightly in cheek, Hersey compares himself to ill-fated figures Eve, Nero and Robert Johnson in the blues shuffle "Fallen." And in the country rock tunes "Keep Each Other Company" and "Walking to the Light" Hersey more earnestly sings about hard-won insight and redemption. Written, performed and produced by Hersey (except for a poem written by Victor T. Runowicz), ADIRONDACK showcases a singer and musician at the height of his powers and coming into his own creatively in the wake of an experience that transformed him to the core.
