8 Cents Is Your Birthday is the debut release from the Western Massachusetts band Dr. Isosceles. Based in the artistically reawakening city of North Adams (home of the new museum of big art, MASS MoCA), Dr Isosceles is made up of Jamie Choquette (lead guitar), Russell Miller (rhythm guitar) and Matt Jenkins (bass guitar). All three band members share vocals. Jamie and Russell were members of another North Adams band, Dead White Males, whose CD Sketchy is also available through CD Baby. (As is Russell's 1996 solo CD Springfield Mystery Plays.) 8 Cents Is Your Birthday features a number of songs from the band's live act, ranging from hard-driving rockers to more contemplative semi-acoustic tunes, all with melodic choruses, edgy lyrics and production, and thoughtful arrangements. The CD was produced by Adam Rothberg and Greg Steele and recorded at Greg Steele's Derek Studios in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Dr. Isosceles has played live dates in Boston, Northampton, southern Vermont, New York's Capital Region, greater Hartford, and throughout Berkshire County.
