Before you trade in MacBook, you’ll need to wipe all data from your MacBook. This is to make sure any of your private information is cleared before the next user has access to the device. 

Clearing your old MacBook will wipe email addresses, photos, contacts, any financial information and more.

Before you wipe your MacBook, make sure to back up any data you want to keep as once your device has been reset, you won’t be able to access anything. 

Make sure to sign out of all of your accounts, unpair Bluetooth devices and reset NVRAM on your MacBook too. You can back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. 

Wondering how to prepare your MacBook Pro ready for your MacBook trade in? It’s super easy! You’ll need to remove your iCloud account and wipe all of your private and personal information from your MacBook Pro; this will include data such as email addresses, contacts, photos, notes etc.

Follow these steps to complete a full factory reset on your MacBook Pro: 

• You’ll need to put your MacBook Pro into recovery mode to erase all data and reinstall MacOS
• To enter recovery mode on an Intel-based Mac, restart it and immediately press and hold Command-R - once you see the Apple logo, release the key 
• For an M1 based Mac, press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window, click Options and Continue to get to the Utilities window
• On the MacOS Utilities window, choose Disk Utility, click Continue and start up disk. Choose Erase and fill out Name and Format
• Click the Erase Volume Group and once Disk Utility has completed its process, quit Disk Utility
• You should return to the MacOS Utilities window and then select Reinstall MacOS. Follow the instructions on the screen 
• Once it’s been reinstalled, you’ll be greeted by the Setup Assistant which you can quit and shut down your MacBook Pro

Before you sell MacBook Air models to us, you'll need to reset them. This means you’ll need to remove your iCloud account and wipe all of your private and personal information from your MacBook Air.
